Walters State Community College will honor business leader and philanthropist Eleanor Yoakum by naming the main building on the college’s Claiborne County Campus in her honor. The official naming ceremony is at 10 a.m. on July 19 in the building’s auditorium. The public is invited. The event is hosted by the Walters State Foundation.
The Eleanor E. Yoakum Building includes over 10,000 square feet of space for classrooms, labs, offices and areas for study and student activities. The Tennessee College of Applied Technology teaches the licensed practical nurse classes on the top floor.
The name change was approved by the Tennessee Board of Regents, the governing body of the state’s community colleges, at its March meeting.
