Search warrant leads to Morristown drug arrest

Morristown Police Department narcotics and vice agents executed a search warrant in southwest Morristown last night following the overdose of an individual at the residence.

Friday afternoon, officers were dispatched to 523 Valley Street regarding an overdose investigation. Officers arrived on scene to find that EMS had arrived and found the subject, 35-year-old Preston Proffitt, who had overdosed prior to the officers’ arrival.

While on scene, narcotics detectives observed what they believed to be illegal narcotics and a large amount of cash lying in the home in plain view.

After obtaining a search warrant, officers discovered more than 100 grams of suspected methamphetamine and 34 grams of suspected marijuana hidden in containers with false compartments. Drug paraphernalia, scales and $6,620 in cash believed to be from drug sale proceeds were also found in the residence. The subject’s vehicle, 2007 Lexus sedan, was also seized.

Mr. Proffitt was transported to Morristown-Hamblen Hospital. Charges are pending in this investigation.
