New Hamblen County schools SROs announced

The Morristown Police Department (MPD) is introducing their 2021-2022 school year School Resource Officers (SRO). Due to promotions and other personnel changes, three SROs have been replaced.

Officer Sam Swatzell will begin his third school year with Morristown-Hamblen West High. He has served the citizens of Morristown as an MPD officer for seven years. Officer Swatzell spent the first few months of the 2019-2020 school year working at Meadowview and East Ridge before moving to West High.

Officer Greg Hall will be the new SRO at Morristown-Hamblen High School East. Although he is new to the school this year, he has served as an SRO in the past. During Officer Hall’s previous assignment as an SRO, he spent time at East High, West View and Lincoln Heights middle schools. He has served with the Morristown Police Department for 16 years.

Detective Jason Young is the new SRO for Meadowview and East Ridge middle schools this year. He has served the citizens of Morristown since 2002. Detective Young has worked in various areas of the police department. “School Resource Officer is a completely new chapter for my career at the department. I am grateful for the opportunity to engage with the community working with the students and staff at these schools,” stated Detective Young.

Officer Devon Gillett will serve at West View and Lincoln Heights middle schools. He has served with the Morristown Police Department for two years; however, he had prior law enforcement experience before joining the department. Officer Gillett also serves on the MPD’s Crisis Negotiations Team.

In addition to their assigned schools, the middle school SROs also serve the east and west end elementary schools and Miller-Boyd Alternative School, as needed. All four of the Morristown Police Department School Resource Officers look forward to the school year and getting to know the students of our community.
