THP to step up seat belt enforcement rest of November

The Tennessee Highway Patrol says 1,007 individuals have died on roadways in the state so far this year, 61 more than on this date a year ago. The Tennessee Highway Safety Office is working to reduce Tennessee traffic fatalities as part of the country’s Toward Zero Death program.

TZD is a national strategy on highway safety to advocate for eliminating serious injuries and deaths. As part of the program, a number of local law enforcement agencies are beefing up their seatbelt uasage enforcement.  From November 16 – 29, participating agencies across Tennessee will increase seat belt enforcement as part of the “Click It or Ticket” campaign.

Participating law enforcement agencies will be taking a no-excuses approach to seat belt law enforcement, writing citations day and night.
