Tusculum University names interim president

Tusculum Univerity announced today that Board Chairman Dr. Greg Nelson has been named as interim president to take over from Dr. James Hurley, who is leaving at the end of this month to become president of a school in Texas. Nelson has served as board chairman since 2017.

Tom Wennogle, president of Jarden Zinc in Greeneville, will become the new Board of Trustees chairman. Nelson retired in 2014 from Eastman Chemical, having served as that company’s senior vice president and chief technology officer.

The change comes as Tusculum continues their search for a new president. Current president Dr. Hurley was announced as the new president of of Tarleton State University in Texas after just under two years as president at Tusculum.

The search will continue for a permanent replacement.
