Play-by-Play Announcer: Mike Rypel
The "Voice of the Hurricanes" is in his 12th season calling Morristown East High School sports. The Cleveland, Ohio native, a former ice hockey player, is a veteran of nearly one thousand high school and NCAA Division 1 play-by-play contests. He is a graduate of Bowling Green State University (OH).
Rypel has announced football, basketball, baseball and ice hockey games from such collegiate venues as Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan State, Indiana and Louisiana Tech, and at professional locales such as Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Michigan.
He was thrilled to be on-the-call of future hall of fame WR Randy Moss' final collegiate TD catch for the Marshall Thundering Herd and for what was then coach Joe Paterno's 300th career victory at Penn State (since revoked from the history books). Rypel also announced ballgames from Indiana University's famed Assembly Hall during legendary coach Bobby Knight's stormy tenure.
While in Morristown the past decade, Rypel has been especially honored to witness the success of the 2006 and 2008 East High football teams. The Lady Hurricanes stunning run to the 2012 girls basketball state tournament remains a top highlight along with the two boys basketball sub-state teams, a 2006 IMAC baseball regular season title and in covering the consistent winning of the Lady 'Canes softball program.
As a diehard Cleveland Browns fan, Mike has not missed a game since 1985 and has the emotional scars and therapy bills to prove it.
